Ola Jackson
Ola
Jackson, founder of Jackson Publishing Communication and publisher of
Onyx Woman a regional business and career development magazine
for black women, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a long-time BCW
network sisterfriend.
Onyx Woman began as an eight-page newsletter for welfare recipients in
Pittsburgh in 1994. At that time, Ola had her own PR Firm and was a
training consultant, presenting workshops on job search strategies and
business etiquette to welfare-to-work women. The newsletter was created by
Ola to allow her to continue to assist women as they moved from welfare to
gainful employment. As the newsletter database continued to grow,
so did the audience and the newsletter content. Today, Onyx
Woman is a quarterly magazine with a regional and national
subscribership.
Ola Jackson is still "a woman on a mission" determined to provide
information to African American women entrepreneurs to accelerate
their progress. Her magazine continues to grow, keeping pace with
its readership comprised of professional and aspiring women in the
workforce and emerging entrepreneurs. Like BCW, Ola has expanded
her base through her website, through networking sessions and
through getting down to business seminars for budding black women
entrepreneurs. Her next workshop to be held April 27th in Philadelphia
will focus on enhancing career, business development and financial
empowerment skills for all women of color. For more information log
on to OnyxWoman.com.
BCW's President was contacted by Ola early in the development of
both organizations. Onyx Woman featured BCW in one of its
publications. BCW included Onyx Woman magazine subscription cards
and sample magazines on display tables at workshops and in targeted
mailings. Through networking and mutual sharing, both organizations
thrived. As BCW celebrates its 25th Anniversary, we salute achieving
black women with vision and purpose like Ola Jackson. As we count
our 25 years, we are thankful for a network of sisterfriends like
Ola, whom we could always count on!
SALUTE!
And continued success, Ola!
